Mini Splits: An Effective Way to Cool & Heat

We enjoy warm weather pretty much year-round in south Florida, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t times when we wish we could have a little heat in our homes. Wouldn’t it be great if you could use your cooling system at these times to stay warm?

You can when you choose a mini-split system for your home.

How Do Mini Splits Work?

Mini-split heat pumps are different from air conditioners and furnaces in that they provide both cooling and heating. They consist of an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units that are connected via refrigerant lines and work by moving heat from one place to another.

When it’s hot out (which, of course, is most of the time here on Florida’s eastern coast), the mini-split heat pump absorbs excess indoor heat and moves it outdoors. When it’s cold out, it works in reverse to absorb ambient outdoor heat, compress it, and move it indoors.

Mini splits are convenient for their ability to provide both air conditioning and heating — but they are also convenient because you can have them installed wherever they are needed. Add one to that one room that gets chilly in the winter or install multiple mini-splits throughout your home for custom home zoning.

What Are the Benefits of Choosing a Mini Split?

We get a lot of questions from homeowners about the advantages of mini splits over traditional HVAC equipment like air conditioners and furnaces. Here are some of the many benefits that cause our customers to choose mini splits over other home comfort options:

  • Provide both cooling and heating
  • Extremely energy efficient
  • May help lower cooling & heating costs
  • Simple to install
  • Eliminate the need for ductwork
  • Can operate as quietly as a whisper
